Short-Term Device Loan Program

Q: I know the name of the item I want to borrow, but when I enter it into the search box, I can’t find it in the database. Does this mean it’s not available in the Loan Program Inventory?
A: Try entering only part of the item’s name in the Search by Name box (for example, type “Dyna” instead of “DynaVox”). This broader search will return all results containing that phrase, whether it appears in the name, inventory code, description, or manufacturer listing. Avoid using the word “and” to separate search terms, and do not search using plural words (for example, search for “screen reader” instead of “screen readers”). Be mindful of spaces and dashes—typing “seensay” or “see-n-say” won’t return results for “see n say,” but searching for “see” will. If you still can’t find the item, contact the Loan Program Inventory to confirm availability or find alternatives. You can also scroll to the bottom of this page for a list of useful keywords that can help refine your search.
Q: The item I want is listed as discontinued. How can I find a similar item that’s still available for loan?
A: Check the similar items listed in the item’s description. If none are available, try searching within the same category as the discontinued item. If you still can’t find what you need, contact the Loan Program Inventory for assistance.
Q: There are no similar items listed for a specific device in the database. Does that mean it’s the only one of its kind in the Loan Program Inventory?
A: Not necessarily. The Loan Program Inventory categorizes similar items in different ways—some by activation method, some by function, others by comparable systems or size. If no similar items are listed, try browsing within the assigned category of the item you’re viewing. If you still aren’t sure or can’t find a suitable match, contact the Loan Program Inventory for further assistance.
