The emphasis will be on the products for people who are blind and low vision but the entire product range will be discussed. You will learn how you can trade in your current screen reader or low vision access software and save money on these exciting new products.

Learn how Hal, the screen reader, Lunar, the screen enlargement software and SuperNova, the total speech and low vision solution, can make your entire campus accessible for less money. Take a quick look at how EasyConverter can convert documents to a wide range of accessible formats including DAISY and Braille.

Products:

Eye-Pal for Blind and Deaf-Blind
Eye-Pal is a one-pound foldable USB device that holds a digital camera over printed material. and connects to a computer. It’s optical character recognition (OCR) is faster than flatbed scanners it takes only a few seconds from a single keystroke to speech or refreshibleBraille output. Eye-Pal allows you to browse through documents and organize them either as paper or computer files, read bound books, newspapers, or professional magazines and save as text or sound with one click.

Zoom-Ex
The durable but lightweight design of the Zoom-Ex consists of a 2 1/2 inch digital camera on a specially designed stand. You place a book under the Zoom-Ex camera and with one keystroke, in less than five seconds, you are reading and/or listening to the document. The text is automatically word wrapped to fit your monitor at all times.

Zoom-Twix
The Zoom-Twix uses all the functionality of the Zoom-Ex and adds an extra camera for near and distance viewing.

“Technology and Deaf Education; Exploring Instructional and Access Technologies” An International Symposium

The Tech Symposium 2008 is sponsored by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at the Rochester Institute of Technology, PEN-International, and the Nippon Foundation of Japan.

Program Summary:

  • Plenary presentations by international experts in deafness and instructional technology;
  • Concurrent presentations covering an array of topic areas applicable to either K-12 level, post secondary level or both;
  • Post sessions or electronic poster sessions;
  • Numerous informal social gatherings to share information and ideas;
  • Commercial exhibits showcasing related products and services.

Presentation Strands:

The symposium presentations will be divided into four strands:

  • Access Technology (*New Strand for 2008*)
  • Using technology to support learning
  • Assessing the impact of technology
  • Online learning

11th Annual Accessing Higher Ground: Accessible Media, Web and Technology Conference for Education, for Businesses, for Web and Media Designers

In Collaboration with AHEAD, EASI, ATHEN and CSUN ATACP

Accessing Higher Ground focuses on the implementation and benefits of Assistive Technology in the university and college setting for sensory, physical and learning disabilities. Other topics include legal and policy issues, including ADA and 508 compliance, and making campus media and information resources – including Web pages and library resources – accessible.

Dozens of workshops, lectures, hands-on experience in beautiful Boulder, Colorado.
