Join Dusty Voohees, Senior Product Manager, for Freedom Scientific Blind/Low Vision Group, for a low vision Technology Workshop. Discussions will vary from recent developments in low vision technology, to the newest version of MAGic large print software. A demonstration on access to Topaz and Opal video mangifiers will also take place. Sessions will be held from 9:30 – Noon, and from 1:00 – 3:30pm in the Center’s Computer Training Center. July 25-27, 2007 The New England Center Deafblind Project and Perkins Training Center are pleased to announce Summer Institute 2007. The event will take place on July 25-26, from 9:00am-4:30pm, and July 27, from 9:00am-3:00pm. Dr. Jennifer Grisham-Brown and Diane Haynes, from the University of Kentucky, will be presenting information such as:

  • Receptive Communication: Functions & Forms
  • Writing the “Communication Script
  • Applying Systematic Instruction to the Communication Script

This Summer Institute is open to teachers, speech/language therapists, special education teachers, teachers of both visually impaired and deaf and hard of hearing, and parents.

Pine Tree Society, a Maine-based organization that serves people with disabilities, is pleased to once again announce the offering of Camp Communicate. Camp Communicate is a summer camp experience designed to empower children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, their families and professionals who support them. The Camp will take place from Friday, August 24th – Sunday, August 26th at Pine Tree Camp in Rome, Maine. This facility is a 285 acre, fully accessible location, with staff and volunteers who are experienced in accessible recreation. Enrollment is limited to 20 children. NCAM, The National Center for Accessible Media, has been awarded a three (3)-year grant to make airline entertainment, communications and information accessible to flyers with sensory disabilities. Solutions and resulting recommendations will include the integration of captioning for video and audio, descriptive narration for visual images and audio navigation for system menus and interfact design.
